Becoming a Welcoming Presence

Updated: Oct 20

It’s taken me many years to Allow myself to truly feel my emotions.

I’ve cultivated a good bit of self-awareness.

I can recognize and acknowledge what’s coming up in me,

and I'm pretty good at asking myself the deeper questions.

But Allowing myself to fully feel my feelings has been the hardest part.

I’m good at naming my feelings and thinking about them,

but actually feeling them is a different story.

I have a feeling it’s the same for many of you.

I’m deeply committed to this Self-Love practice though ~

to give myself both the permission and the space

to let my emotions fully express and move through me.

Because I’ve felt the peace, freedom, and safety

that settle softly into my body

after I’ve let an emotion fully process.

And guess what?

Neuroscience shows us that it takes only 90 seconds

for an emotion to pass when it's fully felt

(if we let it flow, and don't get stuck in it).

I’ve learned that no matter how many times I avoid, bury, or bypass a feeling,

it will keep showing up, again and again, until I get present and feel it.

Maybe you can relate?

What we resist feeling, will keep circling back around

until we Allow ourselves to feel it.

Emotions are energy in motion ~ and we’re biologically designed to feel them.

When we let them run their natural course,

emotions will complete their cycle and pass through quickly.

But our subconscious tries to protect us from the discomfort of our feelings —

it controls our emotions, manipulates situations, and self-criticizes into submission.

And this doesn’t only happen with painful experiences.

It happens just as often with positive ones.

Have you ever noticed that you find it difficult

to Allow yourself to receive a compliment, celebrate a win, relax into rest…

or even fully enjoy the pleasant things in life?

It takes self-awareness and practice,

but we can become a welcoming presence for whatever arises within us.

And the gift is that when we do,

our experience of life becomes much more fulfilling and rewarding —

almost as if someone turned up the color saturation to a brighter setting.

Whatever feeling arises within you, resist attaching a story to it.

Just welcome it. Breathe into it.

Let yourself experience it as a sensation in your body.

Give yourself a few minutes and Allow the feeling to fully express.

Be a loving presence and hold yourself in the experience.

(Literally holding yourself helps create the safe space for it to move through.)

If you notice resistance to letting yourself have your feelings,

that’s also Allowed — welcome the resistance with compassion.

When you open your heart and Allow yourself to fully feel,

whether it's a positive or negative emotion,

your body will complete the process and move it through you.

And afterward, you’ll feel more clear, light, and at peace.

By Allowing ourselves to fully feel what arises within us,

we welcome the Wholeness and fulfillment of Being who we truly are.

When we deny our difficult emotions, we stifle our joy as well.

True Self-Love means Allowing the full spectrum of feelings to flow through us.

💌 Loving Invitation:

Let’s take an intentional breath together and gently ask:

Where am I not Allowing myself to fully experience my feelings?

... May you be a welcoming presence for the feeling as it moves through.
