Shining the Light of Gratitude Inwards

Last week, many of us paused to name what we’re grateful for.

We likely named our families, our friends, our health, and our blessings.

These are all wonderful things to be grateful for.

But I want to ask you about gratitude for something else today…

When was the last time you felt grateful for yourself?

Even those of us who have a consistent practice of gratitude,

may not think about shining the light of gratitude inwards very often.

But I encourage you to practice self-gratitude

as a potent act of Self-Love.

Gratitude aimed towards yourself is a celebration of love for yourself.

Below are some gentle invitations to explore self-gratitude.

Please know that if this feels hard, your hesitation is worthy of your compassion.

You are always encouraged to meet yourself at your own pace.

Here’s some questions to help you lovingly feel into gratitude for yourself:

(As you read on, I invite you to pause and let each reflection land in your body.)

Are you grateful for your personality?

For who you are, and how you show up in the world.

Your sense of humor, your depth, your thoughtfulness, your sensitivities.

The way you think and process and self-reflect…

Can you be grateful for your body? Anything about it?

Maybe all the quiet ways it carries you through each day…

For your well-being. Your strength. Your health.

And even if you don’t have perfect health,

can you find gratitude for the parts that function well?

For your breath. Your heartbeat. Your resilience…

How about gratitude for the intention or effort you put into life?

For the way you get back up when it knocks you down.

For the moments you choose to rest, instead of pushing yourself.

For the times you soften, instead of harden.

Are you grateful for how you’re learning to be more gentle with yourself?

For how you’re growing, even when it seems slow?

For how you keep showing up, even when it’s hard?

For how you’re more self-aware, even when you notice things you don't like?

Are you grateful that you're learning to love yourself more?

That you're choosing healthier ways of being with yourself?

And Self-Love isn’t just having gratitude for the positive things.

It also includes having gratitude for the difficult aspects of yourself.

Like the decisions that tested you.

Or the mistakes that you learned from.

Or the grief that made your heart softer.

And the fears that showed you what matters most.

And the imperfections that help you to have more grace for others.

We all know that it’s good to extend gratitude outward…

but today I invite you to shine some gratitude inwards.

Let your own recognition and appreciation

be both a loving balm and a joyful honoring of all parts of you ~

of your body, mind, heart, and soul.

Self-Love is an expression of gratitude for the Wholeness of who you are ~

For your inherent beauty and for your natural becoming.

because they've helped me to grow and become who I am."

💗 Honoring Your Whole Self:

With a gentle inhale, imagine shining gratitude inward.

With your exhale, let your whole body receive it.

With so much love, express your gratitude to yourself:

I am grateful for all of me ~ even the parts that are imperfect and growing.”
