The Myth of Perfection

We tend to put these impossible expectations of perfection on ourselves
and we project those same ideals onto others.
We succumb to self-criticism when we don’t measure up,
and pass judgement on those who don’t live in the ways we think they should.
Have you ever noticed yourself doing this?
I’m certainly guilty of it.
Let’s take a deep breath together, and as we slowly breathe out,
we can set an intention to let go of these expectations...
Somehow, we’ve all bought into this collective illusion
that we’re only worthy of love and acceptance
when we have it all together.
But nothing could be further from the truth.
None of us will ever have it all together.
We’re all striving for some elusive myth of perfection
that never existed and never will.
Have you noticed that beneath all the striving,
we all have a tender longing to be loved, just as we are?
That’s the key to shifting the collective illusion ~ and it starts within us.
✨ True Self-Love is learning to love the parts that don’t feel loveable.
Self-Love is learning to have understanding and compassion
for all the ways you come up short of your own expectations.
For all your mistakes — past, present, and future.
It’s not about whether or not you’re getting everything right
because you’ll never be able to.
It’s about how you show up for yourself when you don’t.
Which, for any human, is a lot of the time.
But please don’t misunderstand —
Self-Love does not mean that you give yourself a free pass
to act carelessly, cause harm, dismiss responsibility, or disregard impact.
It doesn’t excuse our behavior.
It invites us to be present with it.
Self-Love means that you practice self-awareness and check your integrity.
You bring presence and curiosity to your mess-ups.
You give yourself grace and you grow.
You lean into humility and you acknowledge your mistakes.
You get familiar with your triggers and your response patterns,
and you give yourself all the love you need in those tender spaces.
Stop buying into the myth that you’re only lovable when you have it all together.
Instead, receive this truth:
you're always worthy of love and you’ve always been Whole.
And so is everyone else.
But you’ll only see that when you embrace it for yourself.
So, being in a loving relationship with yourself
is the most perfect thing you can ever do.
Even in the mess.
Even when you mess-up.
Especially when you feel unlovable.
Because being human is a journey of trying and failing.
You might win and get it right sometimes,
but it’s more likely that you’ll have the opportunity to learn
from getting it wrong.
We’re here to grow, evolve, and expand into the Wholeness of our being.
Wholeness begins when we remember
that there’s nothing unworthy of love within any of us.

"Imperfections are not inadequacies; they are reminders that we’re all in this together."
~ Brené Brown
💫 An Invitation to Embrace Wholeness:
Place a hand over your heart and take a deep, gentle breath in.
As you exhale, whisper to yourself:
"I release any expectations of perfection. I embrace the truth of my Wholeness."
... let that land in your body before you go about your day.
