Honoring the Wisdom in Darkness

I’ve been thinking about the Winter Solstice this coming Sunday
and how it offers us a natural permission slip to normalize darkness.
Darkness as an anticipated cyclical reality.
A necessary season of life.
Darkness holds the space for us to rest.
It helps our bodies and our psyches to integrate.
It’s the time when the seeds of spring begin to gestate.
If we let it, the darkness will hold us.
We don’t have to feel scared of it. Or label it as bad.
We can shift our perspective from darkness as emptiness,
and open to a deeper understanding of darkness as nurturing and wise.
We’re taught that light = good, and darkness = bad.
But when we label darkness as something bad,
when we deny the vital importance of times of darkness,
then we’re also denying part of ourselves.
We’re denying the Wholeness of who we are.
Because just like the darkness that comes with winter,
the darkness within each of us,
is not a mistake.
It’s a phase.
It has a special purpose.
It’s an equally important part of a complete cycle.
Darkness asks us to rest.
This inward season is offering to nurture us.
Like a cocoon. Like a womb.
And just like Earth with the rhythm of its cycles,
when darkness arrives (metaphorically or seasonally),
can you take it as a reminder to be gentle with yourself?
Conserve your energy.
Relax into being warm and cozy.
Love yourself in the midst of the regenerative process.
✨Times of darkness are the Universe’s way of beckoning us inwards ~
asking us to cocoon ourselves in love.
It’s inviting us to be introspective
and settle in for a period of intentional hibernation.
And if we choose, it’s an invitation for spiritual reflection…
to lovingly Be with the darker parts of ourselves,
welcome all parts of our Wholeness,
find wisdom in stillness,
hold ourselves with kindness,
and prepare for inner "rebirth."
Nature teaches us that there’s no need to despair when the light is dim.
Because the light will always return.
Spring will come around again.
But you can’t force it, so just allow the process to unfold.
We are made to be resilient.
We’re here to grow through each season of life.
Even when it looks dark and like nothing is happening.
So welcome the winter solstice with deep appreciation.
Don't fear the absence of light ~ for there is deep wisdom in darkness.
Embrace the quiet. Go inward. Snuggle in with yourself.
Trust in the process.
If you’re feeling tender, tired, or withdrawn, that’s completely normal.
There’s nothing to fix.
Simply Be With It.
Wrap yourself in the warmth of your own loving embrace.
In both the light and the dark,
Self-Love is about presence, not pushing through.
We can’t rush ourselves into the next phase.

"The solstice reminds us that even in the darkest places, light is being reborn." ~ Sharon Blackie
🌙 Honoring the Solstice:
Light a single candle, or simply imagine a small flame within you.
Wrap yourself in a blanket, or gently wrap your arms around your body.
Take a slow, intentional breath in… and allow it to release even more slowly.
Imagine yourself resting in a cocoon: safe, warm, and supported by the darkness.
Quietly whisper to yourself:
"I trust the wisdom unfolding within me. I honor this time of pause."
