Meeting Fear with Love

Updated: Jan 7

As we move into the new year,

I’ve noticed a lot of people sharing the intention to "release fear."

I know this seems like a worthwhile intention.

And I understand the desire behind it.

I’ve had this exact same intention before.

Fear feels heavy and uncomfortable.

It can limit or block our progress.

So of course we want to just get rid of it.

But I gently ask you to consider a different perspective…

Fear is not something we’re meant to get rid of.

Fear is a natural and necessary part of being human.

As long as we’re alive, vulnerable, and connected,

fear will show up in all kinds of ways.

But trying to release fear

means pushing away a part of ourselves

that’s asking to be heard.

On the path of Self-Love, we don’t discard fear ~ we appreciate it.

Because fear carries important information.

It’s a signal from our nervous system

that something needs our attention.

When we try to bypass or get rid of it,

it actually causes us to feel more blocked or stagnant.

And if we push past, it'll keep circling back around even stronger.

So instead of trying to release fear

(which isn't something you can actually do),

you can practice Acknowledging and Appreciating it.

When you notice fear arising, pause for a moment.

Check in.

Are you in immediate physical danger?

If not — take a deep breath, gently turn inward, and get curious:

What part of me is feeling afraid?

How is fear trying to protect me?

Maybe it’s an inner child part that learned it wasn’t safe to be seen.

Maybe it’s the part that longs for love but is too afraid of losing it.

Maybe it’s your intuition signaling that a decision isn’t aligned with your truth.

Maybe it’s your mind doing its best to keep you safe in a new experience.

Maybe it’s your gut steering you away from a potential danger.

None of these parts of you need to be released.

They're all trying to protect you.

They're your innate intelligence.

They're guides on your human journey…

They belong.

Instead of silencing fear,

we can allow it to speak when it shows up,

and we can practice meeting it with love and compassion:

"I’m listening. I understand why you're showing up.

Thank you for trying to protect me."

When we understand where fear is coming from and why,

we can make an empowered choice.

With clarity, we can decide how to move forward ~

not from fear,

but from Self-Love.

In alignment with our heart.

This doesn’t mean that fear gets to have its way,

but it does deserve to be acknowledged and appreciated.

Because when we allow fear to inform us,

we strengthen our self-trust.

We deepen our relationship with ourselves.

We honor our internal navigation system.

On the journey of Self-Love, all parts of you are welcome.

All feelings belong ~ even fear ~

because they’re all part of what makes you Whole.

💕 Welcoming Both Fear and Safety:

Take one intentional, deep breath.

On the inhale, imagine making space.

On the exhale, imagine softening your resistance.

Quietly reassure yourself:

"I don’t need to get rid of fear in order to feel safe to move forward.

All feelings belong."
