When Your Body Asks for Your Care

Updated: Mar 30

Have you ever felt that your body was working against you?

I've dealt with health conditions most of my life.

They’ve been a powerful catalyst for my Self-Love journey.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be who I am today without how they've shaped me.

Recently, I received a new and difficult diagnosis to navigate.

As someone who's deeply devoted to my health and wellbeing,

I would be lying if I didn’t say that it feels like a gut punch.

And I’ve been noticing just how easy it is to default into the belief

that your body is betraying you.

I'm very familiar with having to repeatedly find the courage

to come back to my heart-center

and soften into the deep soul-level knowing

that my body is not betraying me.

And it never will.

Your body will never betray you… but it will ask for your loving care.

I don’t say this to bypass a difficult diagnosis.

And I don’t say it to force a positive perspective.

I say it from years of walking this path…

of choosing, again and again,

to stay in loving relationship with my body

instead of turning against it.

When something is "wrong" in our body,

we often immediately shift into fixing mode.

We try to control it… or override it...

We scramble to manage the problem as quickly as possible.

I’ve caught myself spinning out like this sooo many times (including recently).

But health conditions are asking for our embodied devotion.

Not the kind of hyper-focused fixing energy that reinforces a message of dis-ease.

It’s important to also acknowledge the grief that comes with a diagnosis.

Grief for how our body is changing beyond our control.

Grief for the loss of ease or certainty.

This grief deserves space to be fully felt.

And along with it, there’s an invitation to really listen,

instead of override.

To be a partner to your body,

instead of fighting against yourself.

To meet your body with compassionate dedication…

not just surface-level care.

There’s a profound difference between fear-based control

versus a love-based relationship with your body.

And intentionally shifting into that relationship

can be deeply healing on its own.

Of course, I have moments of uncertainty and fear.

And also, I deeply trust my body.

I’ve learned that those feelings can coexist.

Everything I’ve walked through with my health has only strengthened my trust.

It’s helped me to love myself and my body even more.

And believe it or not, it’s helped me to feel more empowered.

My body is my temple in this life.

It’s my home and my partner on this journey.

It’s always communicating with me,

and showing me where it needs more attention.

My practice of Self-Love reminds me that I am still whole.

That we are always whole.

We experience Wholeness through connection with all aspects of ourselves ~ and sometimes, it’s our body that invites us into that deeper relationship.

When it comes to healing, your body always wants to be your greatest ally.

Take care to nurture a loving relationship with it.

🌿 A Moment to Listen:

I invite you to bring your attention to any place in your body

that feels tense, uncomfortable, or in need of care.

And instead of worrying or fixing or ignoring… just be present with it.

Notice the sensations and any emotions that arise.

Place your hand on that part of your body and gently whisper:

"I’m listening."
